Simon Says Light Show - Case Study
Philadelphia Phillies - Citizens Bank Park, 2025
Overview
The Simon Says Light Show was a first-of-its-kind fan activation at Citizens Bank Park, designed to turn the entire stadium into a giant, interactive game. By transforming the ballpark video boards into an oversized version of the classic memory challenge, we created a shared experience that blended nostalgia, technology, and crowd participation and kept fans engaged for the following fireworks show.
My Role
I led the creative direction and production of the light show concept, developing the flow, visual timing, and integration with in-stadium systems. I worked closely with the game operations team and technical partners to ensure the sequence ran smoothly and engaged the full audience.
The Solution
We developed a giant "Simon Says" sequence using fans’ cell phones, stadium lights and synchronized scoreboard prompts. The pacing, sound design, and visuals were carefully crafted to build tension and excitement, keeping fans locked in from start to finish.
The Challenge
We wanted to break away from traditional scoreboard features and create something that was more than a passive viewing experience. The challenge was finding a way to make a stadium-wide crowd feel connected, interactive, and part of a collective game, while keeping the design simple enough for thousands of fans to understand instantly.
The Impact
The Simon Says Light Show became a viral in-stadium moment, sparking social media buzz and leaving fans talking long after the game ended. It highlighted how gamification and technology can bring fans together in new ways, creating a memory that felt both playful and monumental.
